Carbutt Named CC Co-Player of the Week
First Shorewoman To Earn Player Honors In Three Years

LANCASTER, PA -- Washington College freshman outfielder Leigh Carbutt (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) has been named the Centennial Conference Softball Co-Player of the Week for the week ending March 15, 2009. Carbutt shares the player of the week honors with Muhlenberg's Ashley Brewer.

Carbutt batted a team best .563 (18-for-32) in helping the Shorewomen go 5-4 on their trip to Myrtle Beach, SC. She reached base in all nine games, had seven consecutive multi-hit performances, scored seven runs, roped five doubles, hit a home run and was a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen base chances. Carbutt slugged .813 and had a .588 on-base percentage. She was also a perfect 9-for-9 in fielding chances.

Carbutt hit the game-winning three run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to snap a 4-4 tie versus Penn State-Berks on March 8 as Washington won 10-4, capping a 3-for-4, three run and three RBI performance. Against Penn State-Harrisburg on March 11, she forced a runner out at second base from centerfield to help short circuit a PSU-Harrisburg rally in a game the Shorewomen won 7-3. Versus Regis on March 12, she was a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate, tying the game on an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning and scoring the game-winning run later in the frame.

She is the first Washington player to win the conference player of the week award since Diane Green earned the award on April 3, 2006.
