2008 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Salisbury University posted a pair of five-inning victories against host Washington College in a non-conference softball double-header this afternoon in Chestertown, MD. The Sea Gulls (5-3) took game one, 8-0, and won game two, 9-0. The Shorewomen were opening their season with the twin bill. Salisbury scored two runs in the top of the second inning of game one to take an early 2-0 lead. The Sea Gulls then tacked on two more runs in the third inning on a home run by Stacy Davis. Salisbury added four more runs in the fourth, including a home run to left field by Lauren Brenneman to lead off the inning. Davis finished the first game 3-for-3 with a home run, a triple, four RBI, and two runs scored. Brenneman was 2-for-3, while Alex Winstead was 2-for-2 and scored two runs. Davis also got the win in the circle, striking out seven batters and allowing one hit and one walk. Junior first baseman Meghan Luterzo (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/St. Mary's) banged out the Shorewomen's lone hit in the game. The Sea Gulls scored twice in the first inning of game two, but blew the game open in the second inning when they plated four more. Salisbury then added two more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth. Washington loaded the bases in each of the first two innings, but could not get a run across. Kelly Waskewicz went 2-for-2 with a walk, three runs scored, and a double in the second game for Salisbury. Winstead singled, walked, scored a run, drove in a run, and had a sacrifice bunt. Kortni Pedlow pitched the first two innings for Salisbury, allowing one hit and five walks. Rachel Hastings pitched the final three innings and faced the minimum nine batters. Junior pitcher/first baseman Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) accounted for the Shorewomen's lone hit in the contest. Freshman shortstop Jes Van Gosen (Virginia Beach, VA/Tallwood) reached base twice on walks. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. double-header at Villa Julie. |
