2008 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Dickinson College posted a pair of shutout victories over host Washington College in a Centennial Conference softball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Washington College Softball Field. The Red Devils (22-12, 10-4 Centennial) won game one, 8-0, and took game two, 5-0. The Shorewomen fell to 8-18 overall and 3-9 in conference play with the pair of losses. Dickinson led 1-0 going into the top of the third and scored three runs to make it 4-0. The Red Devils got RBI hits from Emma Murtaugh and Kyrie Budnik and a sacrifice fly from Kaitlyn McDonald. Dickinson added three runs in the top of the fourth to make it 7-0 and one run in the top of the fifth to increase the lead to 8-0 and provide the final margin. For Dickinson, Fleming went 4-for-4 and scored three runs, while Murtaugh and Jess Burger went 2-for-3 each with Murtaugh driving in a pair of runs. Allison Jordan picked up the victory in the circle, tossing a four-hit shutout and improves to 13-5. For Washington, senior Irene Pastorino (Swarthmore, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) went 2-for-3. Senior Michelle Laque (Ocean Pines, MD/Stephen Decatur) took the loss for the Shorewomen and falls to 2-7. In the second game, Dickinson broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth on a run scoring double off the bat of Lisa Biddle that scored McDonald. On the play, the ball was misplayed by the WC fielder and that allowed Budnik to score from first base and permitted Biddle to reach third to make it 2-0. In the sixth, the Red Devils made it 3-0 on a single by Murtaugh that scored Burger. Dickinson added two more runs in the top of the seventh on a two-run double by Burger to make it 5-0. Liz Barry registered the win for the Red Devils and improves to 9-7 on the season. She tossed a complete game shutout. Murtaugh went 3-for-3 with an RBI in game two, while Burger was 2-for-4 with two RBI. For the Shorewomen, junior Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) took the loss and falls to 5-7. She went the distance, allowing just two earned runs. Pastorino and senior Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) each had two hits in game two. The Shorewomen return to action tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference twinbill against visiting Haverford. |
