Four Shorewomen Named All-Centennial
Pastorino and Russell Named to First Team

LANCASTER, PA -- Four Washington College softball players have been named to the All-Centennial Conference team in a vote conducted by the conference's coaches. Senior outfielder Irene Pastorino (Swarthmore, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) and senior second baseman Megan Russell (Federalsburg, MD/Seaford Christian (DE) garnered spots on the first team, junior pitcher/first baseman Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) was named to the second team as a utility player, while senior outfielder Meg Travers (Huntingtown, MD/Calvert) earned honorable mention recognition. The four selections were the most since five Washington players were named to the all-conference team in 2005.

Pastorino was named All-Centennial Conference for the first time. Pastorino was the team's leading hitter with a .369 batting average, playing in 29 games. She led the team with a .411 on-base percentage and finished second on the team with 31 hits, both career-highs. She also had career-bests in runs (9), doubles (3), RBI (6), slugging percentage (.405), walks (6) and on-base percentage (.411). In conference-only games, she batted .379 (22-for-58), tops on the team and her 22 hits in conference games was second most by any Centennial player.

Russell, also a first time all-conference pick, started all 30 games for Washington in 2008. She hit .351, batting .370 (20-for-54) in conference tilts, and had a team-best and career-high 34 hits, tied for the team lead in RBI with 13 and second on the squad in runs scored with a career-best 13. Russell was tops on the team in total bases with 41, and finishes second in slugging percentage (.423) and on-base percentage (.366). In conference-only games, she placed in the top 10 in three different categories: at-bats, batting average and hits.

Adams, who was named to the second team for the third consecutive season, was the Shorewomen's top pitcher. She had 10 complete games and one shutout in 14 starts, while tossing a career-high 94.2 innings and going 5-7 in the circle. In the batter's box, she hit .319 in conference. In the field, she made just two errors in 116 chances for a fielding percentage of .983. The junior played in 29 of 30 games in 2008.

Travers earned all-conference recognition for the first time. She was third on the team with a .310 average and tied for the team lead in RBI with 13. She scored a team-best 14 runs for the Shorewomen this season. Travers hit Washington's lone home run of the 2008 season in the first game against Muhlenberg on April 27. In conference games, she batted .333. In the field, she made just one error in 29 chances for a .966 fielding percentage.
