2007 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Sophomore Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) tossed a complete game shutout for her first win of the season as Washington College downed visiting Delmarva rival Wesley College, 3-0, in the nightcap on Wednesday afternoon on the campus of Washington College. Wesley captured the first game, 4-3. Adams, who scattered hits in the victory, improves to 1-4 on the season. She walked just one batter and fanned six for the Shorewomen, who improve to 5-9. Tami Johnson took the loss for the Wolverines, who are now 2-6 on the season. She allowed seven hits and just one earned run, but drops to 0-2. Adams also delivered at the plate with a two-run game-winning double down the left field line with no outs in the bottom of the sixth that plated sophomore Meghan Luterzo (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/St. Mary's) and junior Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institute of Notre Dame). Junior Tricia Carroll (Owings Mills, MD/Owining Mills) capped the scoring with a single up the middle that drove in junior Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley). Luterzo went 2-for-3 in the game to pace the Washington offense. In the opening game, Wesley got a home run by Jessica Morgan in the top of the first and the Wolverines added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 3-0 lead. The Shorewomen, who left 12 on base in the opener, finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Luterzo and Campbell had RBI hits to cut the deficit to 3-2. Wesley got an unearned run in the top of the 7th to make it 4-2. The Shorewomen got it back to 4-3 in the bottom of the frame, but could not draw any closer. Wesley's Kelly Caton went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Morgan was 2-for-3 in the win. Morgan picked up the win for Wesley and improves to 1-2, while freshman Caitlin McElroy (Bricktown, NJ/Brick Township) was on the short end of the decision for Washington and falls to 3-3. The Shorewomen open Centennial Conference play Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. against visiting Franklin & Marshall. |
