2007 KISSIMMEE, FL -- The Washington College softball team won its final two games at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, FL, defeating Suffolk, 11-4, and Coast Guard, 5-2, today. The Shorewomen bring a 4-8 overall record back north with them following a 4-4 mark at the Rebel Spring Games. Washington scored seven runs in the third inning of the Shorewomen's win over Suffolk. Sophomore Meghan Luterzo (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/St. Mary's) went 3-for-4 in the game with two doubles, two runs scored, two RBI, and a walk, while junior Meg Travers (Huntingtown, MD/Calvert) was 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, and three runs scored. Junior Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) hit a pair of doubles, while sophomore Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) finished the game with three hits. Junior Tricia Carroll (Owings Mills, MD/Owings Mills) got the win for the Shorewomen. Against Coast Guard, the Shorewomen plated two runs in the bottom of the first as senior Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran) led off the inning with a walk and scored on an RBI single by Proctor. Proctor later scored on an RBI single by Adams. The Shorewomen added to the lead with three runs in the fifth on RBI singles by Adams and junior Megan Russell (Federalsburg, MD/Seaford Christian, DE) and a walk by junior Irene Pastorino (Swarthmore, PA/Cardinal O'Hara). The Bears got on the scoreboard in the sixth, scoring two runs on a fielder's choice to make it 5-2, but could get no closer. Freshman Caitlin McElroy (Bricktown, NJ/Brick Township) picked up her third win of the week, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk against Coast Guard. Adams finished the Coast Guard game 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI. The Shorewomen return to action March 24th with a 1:00 p.m. double-header at Villa Julie. |
