Shorewomen Drop Two in Florida
Washington Falls to UW-Stout, UW-River Falls

KISSIMMEE, FL -- The Washington College softball team dropped a pair of games to schools from the University of Wisconsin system today at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, FL. The Shorewomen (1-6) opened the day with a tough 4-2 loss to UW-Stout and concluded the afternoon with a 9-0 loss to UW-River Falls.

Against UW-Stout, the Shorewomen got on the scoreboard first when junior Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) drove in sophomore Meghan Luterzo (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/St. Mary's) with a double to right center in the third inning. The Shorewomen added another run in the top of the fifth as junior Meg Travers (Huntingtown, MD/Calvert) scored when sophomore Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) walked with the bases loaded. UW-Stout did not get a hit until the bottom of the sixth when the Blue Devils got four, including a three-run double by Jackie Juan that put UW-Stout ahead, 3-2. Juan then scored on a single by Amanda McKellips to give the Blue Devils a two-run lead. The Shorewomen loaded the bases in the seventh, but UW-Stout pitcher Kristy Hoffman came in for the final out and picked up the save, getting the Blue Devils out of the jam.

Proctor, Luterzo, and Washington junior Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) were the only players in the game with two hits. The Shorewomen left 11 runners on base against the Blue Devils.

The bottom half of the line-up for UW-River Falls did significant damage against the Shorewomen in Washington's second game of the day. Number-five hitter Rebecca Troop scored three runs, seventh hitter Ashley James was 4-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored, and Amanda Peters, the Falcons' number nine hitter, was 2-for-4 with two RBI. UW-River Falls scored a run in the first, two in the fourth, and three each in the fifth and seventh innings. Brittany Rathburn got the win for UW-River Falls, pitching four scoreless innings and allowing three hits.

Adams was the only Shorewoman with multiple hits against the Falcons, finishing the game 2-for-3 at the plate. The Shorewomen committed six errors in the loss.

The Shorewomen will play a double-header against Benedictine tomorrow at the Rebel Spring Games beginning at 9:00 a.m.
