2007 KISSIMMEE, FL -- The Washington College softball team split its first two games at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, FL, today. The Shorewomen (1-5) pounded Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, 16-0, in five innings in their first game of the day before falling to Penn State Behrend, 3-1, in their second game. Against MCLA, Washington scored nine runs in the first inning and pounded out 18 hits in 32 at bats. Junior Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) was 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, three RBI, and two runs scored, while sophomore Meghan Luterzo (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/St. Mary's) went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Senior Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran) was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and two RBI, while junior Meg Travers (Huntingtown, MD/Calvert) went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored and junior Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) had a single, a double, a run scored, and an RBI. Sophomore Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) banged out two hits, drove in a run and scored two runs, while junior Tricia Carroll (Owings Mills, MD/Owings Mills) and junior Megan Russell (Federalsburg, MD/Seaford Christian, DE) each had one hit, one RBI, and two runs scored. Freshman Jasmine Queen (Churchton, MD/Southern) added a pinch-hit triple and a run scored. Washington freshman Caitlin McElroy (Bricktown, NJ/Brick Township) hurled a five-inning two-hitter for the Shorewomen against MCLA, striking out two batters and walking two. Washington's 16 runs against MCLA represent the most the Shorewomen have scored in a single game since a 20-4 win over Marywood on March 13th, 2003. Luterzo scored the Shorewomen's run in the loss to Penn State Behrend. Campbell walked twice in the loss, while junior Irene Pastorino (Swarthmore, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) went 2-for-3 and Proctor had a base hit. The Shorewomen will play UW-Stout and UW-River Falls tomorrow at the Rebel Spring Games at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., respectively. |
