Mules Take Two From Shorewomen
Laque Tosses Complete Game For WC In First Game

ALLENTOWN, PA -- Washington College dropped both ends of a Centennial Conference softball doubleheader against Muhlenberg College this afternoon at Cedarcreek Field. The host Mules (8-14, 5-3 CC) won game one, 2-0, and took game two from the Shorewomen (8-18, 1-7 CC), 13-3, in four-and-one-half innings due to the eight-run rule.

In the opening game, Muhlenberg scored both of its runs in the bottom of the third inning for the lone runs of the game. Mule Samantha Crist hit a sacrifice fly that plated Jenna Van Wallwjik. The second run came on a fielder's choice off the bat of RiRi Ferrigno that drove in Hilary Marinchak.

Junior pitcher Michelle Laque (Ocean Pines, MD/Stephen Decatur) took the loss despite tossing a complete game and falls to 0-2. She allowed just two hits and struck out five in the game for the Shorewomen. Muhlenberg's Nicole Washburn picks up the win and improves to 3-7 in tossing a shutout. She scattered five hits in the complete game victory.

In game two, the Mules broke a scoreless tie with seven runs in the bottom of the second en route to a 13-3 win. Muhlenberg added four runs in the bottom of the third to take an 11-0 lead. Washington scored all three of its runs in the top of the fourth to cut it to 11-3. The Shorewomen got RBI from juniors Amada Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) and Tricia Carroll (Owings Mills, MD/Owings Mills). In its half of the fourth, Muhlenberg added two runs to make it 13-3 and the final margin.

Sophomore Meghan Luterzo (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/St. Mary's) went 2-for-3 in the contest for Washington and scored a run. For the Mules, three players had three hits and four players had two hits in the nightcap.

Lara Kestenbaum recorded the victory in the second game and improves to 3-3 on the season. Freshman hurler Caitlin McElroy (Bricktown, NJ/Brick Township) took the loss and falls to 4-6.

The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference doubleheader against visiting Swarthmore.
