2007 WESTMINSTER, MD -- Host McDaniel College swept both ends of a Centennial Conference softball double-header against visiting Washington College this afternoon in Westminster, MD. The Green Terror took game one, 5-1, and won the second game, 10-5. McDaniel improved to 12-12 overall and 4-2 in conference play with the wins, while the Shorewomen slipped to 8-12 and 1-3. The Green Terror took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in game one and never looked back. Jessica Smith allowed one run on six hits and a walk to pick up the win and went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double. Karyn Curley went 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBI, and a run scored for the Green Terror, while Samantha Reigel was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Junior Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) was 2-for-3 with a double for Washington, while junior Megan Russell (Federalsburg, MD/Seaford Christian, DE) had a double and a sacrifice fly. In game two, the score was tied at 2-2 before the Green Terror plated four runs in the bottom of the third. Washington got a run back in the top of the fourth, but McDaniel added three more runs in the bottom of that inning to extend the lead to 9-3. Smith again picked up the win in game two, allowing two earned runs on 13 hits and three walks. Emily Trainor was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in the second game for McDaniel, while Brooke Dixon also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Junior Tricia Carroll (Owings Mills, MD/Owings Mills) was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored for the Shorewomen, while junior Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, one RBI, and two runs scored. Junior Irene Pastorino (Swarthmore, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home double-header against Ursinus. |
