Bullets Sweep Shorewomen
Travers Homers in Second Game

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Gettysburg College swept a Centennial Conference double-header from host Washington College this afternoon. Gettysburg won the opener, 4-2, and took the second game, 5-2. The Bullets improved to 21-11 overall and 11-5 in conference play with the wins, while the Shorewomen close out their season 9-29 overall and 2-14 in conference play.

In the opener, Gettysburg held a 2-0 lead until the bottom of the fifth when Washington junior Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) reaching on a throwing error to lead off the inning. Two batters later, Proctor scored on an RBI single by senior Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran), which broke up a no-hit bid by Gettysburg pitcher Kristy Rubino. Junior Tricia Carroll (Owings Mills, MD/Owings Mills) then drove in Hartman with an RBI double to tie the score at 2-2. The Bullets took the lead for good in the top of the seventh on home runs by Sarah Woodbury and Heather Sagaities.

Rubino got the win for Gettysburg, allowing two unearned runs on three hits in seven innings of work, while striking out eight batters. Freshman Catilin McElroy (Bricktown, NJ/Brick Township) took the loss for the Shorewomen, allowing four runs, three of them earned, on four hits and two walks. Erin Ober scored two runs for the Bullets in the win, while sophomore Meghan Luterzo (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/St. Mary's) accounted for the Shorewomen's third hit of the opener with a double in the seventh inning.

Washington took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in game two when junior Meg Travers (Huntingtown, MD/Calvert) homered to right center. The Bullets jumped ahead, 3-1, on a home run to left center by Ober in the top of the third inning. Megan Dean drove in two more runs for Gettysburg with a double in the top of the fourth inning to make it 5-1. Proctor doubled in a run in the seventh to provide the final margin.

Rubino picked up the win in the second game as well, striking out 10 batters while allowing two earned runs on seven hits and four walks. Sagaities went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for the Bullets in the second game, while Ober was 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Proctor was 2-for-3 with a walk, while Travers went 2-for-4 for the Shorewomen in the loss.
