2007 LANCASTER, PA -- Host Franklin & Marshall swept a Centennial Conference double-header from visiting Washington College this afternoon, winning the first game, 7-1, and the second, 5-3. The Diplomats improved to 9-23 overall and 3-11 in conference play with the pair of wins, while the Shorewomen fell to 9-25 and 2-12. Washington scored first in the opener as junior Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) doubled to lead off the bottom of the second inning and later scored on a single by junior Tricia Carroll (Owings Mills, MD/Owings Mills). The Diplomats took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning. Leah Pearlman-Storch doubled to lead off that frame and scored on an error on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Jessika Mancino. Jessica Feldman scored later in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Lauren Incorvaia. F&M extended the lead in the sixth inning, scoring four more runs, and then tacked on its final run in the seventh. Feldman went 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI, and a run scored in the opener, while Meredith Morgan was 4-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Bonnie Crouthamel picked up the win for Franklin & Marshall, allowing one run on eight hits and two walks. Carroll was the only Shorewoman to finish with multiple hits as she went 2-for-3. In the second game, Incorvaia gave the Diplomats a 2-0 lead with a home run in the first inning. The Shorewomen got a run back in the bottom of the first when junior Megan Russell (Federalsburg, MD/Seaford Christian, DE) scored on an error, but F&M answered in the top of the second on another home run, this one a solo shot by Pearlman-Storch, to make it 3-1. In the fifth, Mancino tripled and then scored on a triple by Incorvaia, extending the lead to 4-1. Robyn Jones singled in Incorvaia to make it 5-1. Russell scored on a double by Washington sophomore Meghan Luterzo (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/St. Mary's) in the bottom of the sixth to trim the lead to 5-2. Sophomore Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) doubled in the bottom of the seventh and scored on a sacrifice fly by senior Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran) to make it 5-3, but the Shorewomen would get no closer. Incorvaia went 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored in the second game, while Jones was 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Diplomats. Junior Meg Travers (Huntingtown, MD/Calvert) was 3-for-4 for the Shorewomen in the loss, while Adams went 3-for-4 with a run scored. The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 3:00 p.m. double-header at Salisbury. |
