Shorewomen Suffer Two Losses
Washington Falls to Guilford, Arcadia

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA -- The Washington College softball team fell to 0-4 with a pair of losses today at the Atlantic v. East Challenge in Virginia Beach, VA. Washington lost to Guilford, 7-4, in the Shorewomen's first game of the day, and was then shut out by Arcadia, 8-0, in six innings.

In the Shorewomen's first game of the day, Guilford scored a pair of runs in the third and another in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead, before the Shorewomen plated a run in the top of the fifth to make it 3-1. DeNina Eldridge made it 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth when she hit a two-run home run to left field for the Quakers. Kelly Guarnieri hit a two-run single later in the inning to give Guilford a 7-1 lead. The Shorewomen mounted a rally in the seventh, scoring three runs, but ended the game with two runners on base.

Taryn Pulvermuller went 3-for-4 with a run scored in the game for the Quakers, while Eldgride was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored and Ciara Locklear went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Guarnieri had a total of three RBI in the game. Eldrige also picked up the win for Guilford, allowing four runs, one of them earned, on 11 hits.

Senior Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran), junior Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley), and sophomore Meghan Luterzo (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/St. Mary's) each went 3-for-4 in the loss for Washington; Hartman also scored a run, while Campbell drove in a run. Sophomore Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

In Washington's second game, Arcadia's Jenn Compton pitched a six-inning one hitter, striking out three batters and walking none. Compton also went 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, a home run, and six RBI. Danielle Discher was 2-for-2 with three runs scored for Arcadia, who scored a run in the first, three each in the third and fourth, and another run in the sixth inning. Washington freshman Jasmine Queen (Churchton, MD/Southern) banged out a double for the Shorewomen's lone hit in the game.

The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 2:00 p.m. double-header at Salisbury.
