29, 2006 DOVER, DE -- Visiting Washington College scored 13 runs in each game en route to a double-header sweep of Delmarva rival and host Wesley College in non-conference softball action this afternoon in Dover, DE. The Shorewomen (9-9) won game one, 13-5, in five innings, and took game two, 13-1, in five innings. Senior Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) put up a combined ten RBI and a combined seven runs scored in the twin bill in her home state. The Shorewomen jumped on top, 8-0, after two innings in the first game. Green hit an inside-the-park home run in the game one victory and finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, the home run, seven RBI, and three runs scored. Freshman Stef Morgan (Audubon, NJ/Audubon), junior Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran), and sophomore Irene Pastorino (Swarthmore, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) each scored two runs in game one. Green picked up the victory in the circle. Washington scored in every inning of game two and raced out to a 10-0 advantage after three frames. Green went 2-for-2 with two walks, three RBI, and four runs scored in the second game, while Morgan was 2-for-4 with three runs scored, a stolen base, and an RBI. Sophomore Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Inst. of Notre Dame) went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Hartman had a hit, a walk, two runs scored, and two RBI. Freshman Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) was 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a pair of RBI, while Pastorino scored two runs and sophomore Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) finished the game with a double and three walks. Adams got the win in game two, pitching four innings of scoreless one-hit ball and striking out two batters. Sophomore Michelle Laque (Ocean Pines, MD/Stephen Decatur) pitched the final inning and struck out two batters while allowing an unearned run. Wesley fell to 8-14 on the season with the two losses. The Shorewomen open Centennial Conference play Saturday with a 2:30 p.m. double-header at Franklin & Marshall. |
