25, 2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College sweept a pair of non-conference softball games from visiting Villa Julie College this afternoon in Chestertown, MD. The Shorewomen (7-9) won the first game, 10-2, in six innings, and held off the Mustangs (2-12) with an 8-0 victory in game two, in five innings. The Mustangs took an early 1-0 lead on the Shorewomen in the top of the first inning of game one. However, Washington came back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead for good. Sophomore third baseman Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/ Garnet Valley) led the offensive attack for the Shorewomen, hitting her second home run of the season in the third inning and added two runs batted in and four runs scored in the game. Sophomore catcher Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Inst. of Notre Dame) added two hits, while freshman first baseman Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) went two-for-four with a game-high three RBI. Senior pitcher Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) struck out six batters in six innings for en route to the victory. The Shorewomen carried their momentum into game two, defeating the Mustangs 8-0, in five innings. Washington was led by Proctor, who went two-for-three at the plate, including an RBI double in the first inning and a three-run home run in the second inning. Campbell also went two-for-three in the game with a run scored, while freshman first baseman Meghan Luterzo (Hasbrouck Hts., NJ/St. Mary's) also went two-for-three at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Adams led the Shorewomen in the circle, striking out five Mustangs in the shutout victory. The Shorewomen will return to action Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at non-conference opponent Wesley. |
