Shorewomen Tame Tigers
Green Becomes All-Time Strikeout Leader at WC

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College opened its season by sweeping a pair of non-conference softball games from visiting Trinity (DC) this afternoon in Chestertown, MD. The Shorewomen (2-0) won the first game, 9-1, in six innings, and held off the Tigers (0-4) with an 8-0 victory in game two, also in six innings. Senior pitcher Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) started game two in the circle for the Shorewomen and recorded five strikeouts, becoming the new all-time career strikeout leader at Washington College.

Freshman pitcher Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) started the opener in the circle for the Shorewomen, and pitched a no-hitter while striking out eight Tigers in her collegiate pitching debut. Sophomore catcher Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Inst. of Notre Dame) paced the offensive attack for the Shorewomen in game one, going 2-for-4 in the game with three runs batted in and two runs scored. Sophomore third baseman Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) also had two hits, including a triple and two RBI, in the opener.

The Shorewomen continued to roll in game two, defeating the Tigers 8-0, in six innings. Washington was led both on the mound and in the batters box by Diane Green. Green went 3-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and one run scored. She also recorded the win in the circle, giving up only four hits. For her career, Green now has 170 strikeouts, surpassing Allison Weisbrod (1999-02), who struck out 168 batters in her career at Washington.

Campbell, along with freshman Stef Morgan (Audubon, NJ/Audubon) each had two hits and an RBI in game two. Freshman second baseman Meghan Luterzo (Hasbrouck Hts., NJ/St. Mary's) had a game-high six assists while belting a triple and scoring two runs in the victory.

The Shorewomen will return to action at the Sea Gull Invitational, hosted by Salisbury University, on March 10th at 10 a.m. against Moravian.
