11, 2006 SALISBURY, MD -- The Washington College softball team split a pair of games at the Sea Gull Invitational today in Salisbury, MD. The Shorewomen were 9-1 winners over Oneonta State in five innings in their first game of the day, but fell to Christopher Newport, 4-1, in their second game. Washington is now 3-3 on the season. In the win over Oneonta State, Washington scored three runs in the first inning, one in the fourth, and five in the third. Sophomore Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, while freshman Stef Morgan (Audubon, NJ/Audubon) was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Junior Maria Hogg (Marriottsville, MD/Liberty) finished 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Senior Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) picked up the win against Oneonta State, allowing one earned run on six hits and no walks in five innings. Green also walked twice and scored a run at the plate. Against Christopher Newport, the game was scoreless until the seventh inning with the Captains plated four runs on six hits. Sophomore Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Inst. of Notre Dame) hit her first collegiate home run in the bottom of the inning to get Washington on the board. Green and junior Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran) each doubled in the loss. Lindsay Kelly got the win for Christopher Newport, allowing three hits, an earned run, and a walk in seven innings, while striking out seven batters. Freshman Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) took the loss for the Shorewomen, allowing four earned runs on nine hits and no walks and striking out four batters in seven innings of work. The Shorewomen return to action Monday at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, FL, where they will play Geneseo at 2:20 p.m. and UW-Platteville at 6:00 p.m. |
