10, 2006 SALISBURY, MD -- The Washington College softball team dropped its first two games of the Sea Gull Invitational in Salisbury, MD, today. The Shorewomen fell to 17th-ranked Moravian in their first game, 5-0, and fell to Virginia Wesleyan, 10-0, in five innings in their second game. Washington is now 2-2 on the season. In the Shorewomen's first game of the day, Moravian pitcher Meagan Hennessy struck out 10 batters and allowed just two hits to shut out Washington. Erica Klepeisz hit a two-run home run for the Greyhounds and went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI. Danielle Carrione went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, an RBI, and a run scored. Washington senior Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) pitched a complete game in the loss to Moravian, allowing five runs, four of them earned, on 10 hits. Freshman Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) doubled in the loss, while sophomore Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) went 1-for-2 with a walk. Bree Strain went 3-for-3 with three doubles and two runs scored to lead Virginia Wesleyan past Washington in the Shorewomen's second game. Lindsey Churchill also went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored, while Becky Sowell was 2-for-2 with a stolen base, an RBI, and two runs scored. Cris Long got the win, pitching a two-hit shutout. Sophomore Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Inst. of Notre Dame) doubled for Washington in the loss to Virginia Wesleyan and finished 1-for-2 a the plate. Adams had a base hit in two at bats. The Shorewomen will play Oneonta State and Christopher Newport at the Sea Gull Invitational tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., respectively. |
