6, 2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- 13th ranked Salisbury swept a pair of non-conference softball games from host Washington College this afternoon in Chestertown, MD. Salisbury defeated WC in game one 9-0 in six innings, and 10-1 in game two in five innings. Senior pitcher Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) hit a RBI single in game two, becoming the new all-time career RBI leader at Washington College. Salisbury scored its nine runs on 13 hits in game one. Sea Gull pitcher Lacey Lister struck out ten WC batters en route to the complete game shutout. Erin Ruest and Tee Dronenburg each hit a home run for Salisbury in game one. Green and junior outfielder Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran) each went one-for-two at the plate with a walk for the Shorewomen in the loss. Ruest hit a grand slam to help lead the Sea Gulls to the five inning 10-1 victory over the Shorewomen in game two. Kristy Shaffer went two-for-three with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored for Salisbury. Green recorded her record-breaking 82nd career RBI in the bottom of the fifth inning, driving in freshman outfielder Stef Morgan (Audubon, NJ/Audubon) with a single down the left field line. Green surpassed current WC assistant softball coach Laura Scimeca (2001-05) who had 81 RBI in her career at Washington. Morgan went two-for-three at the plate, while freshman first baseman Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) went two-for-two in the game two loss. The Sea Gulls improve to 23-5 overall while the Shorewomen fall to 11-13. The Shorewomen will return home on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. for a Centennial Conference doubleheader against McDaniel. |
