17, 2006 KISSIMMEE, FL -- The Washington College softball team split its final two games at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, FL, this afternoon. The Shorewomen posted a 6-3 win over Springfield in their first game of the day, but fell to Wisconsin-La Crosse, 14-3, in their second game. The Shorewomen took a 1-0 lead on Springfield in the first inning when sophomore Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Inst. of Notre Dame) drove in senior Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) with an RBI double. The Pride scored a run in the bottom of the second to tie the score, but WC sophomore Irene Pastorino (Swarthmore, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) drove in freshman Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) with an RBI double and senior Jess Hoff (Hatboro, PA/Germantown Academy) drove in junior Maria Hogg (Marriottsville, MD/Liberty) with an RBI single to give Washington a 3-1 lead. Springfield scored a run in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 3-2 before Washington junior Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran) hit a two-run single in the top of the sixth inning to extend the lead to 5-2. Springfield scored its final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth and Washington added another run in the top of the seventh when Proctor doubled and later scored on an error. Proctor and Pastorino each went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in the win over Springfield. Green picked up the win in the circle, allowing three earned runs in seven innings while striking out three batters. Washington committed eight errors in the loss to Wisconsin-La Crosse, allowing all 14 Eagle runs to score unearned. Four of those errors came in the first inning when Wisconsin-La Crosse scored nine runs. WC sophomore Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third and went 2-for-3 at the plate in the loss. The Shorewomen's other run came in the bottom of the first inning when Campbell drove in freshman Stef Morgan (Audubon, NJ/Audubon) with a single. The Shorewomen (5-9) return to action Wednesday with a 2:30 p.m. double-header at Catholic. |
