WC Drops Two Games in Florida
Shorewomen Fall to Otterbein, Kean

KISSIMMEE, FL -- The Washington College softball team lost both of its games today at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, FL. The Shorewomen couldn't complete a rally in a 6-5 loss to Otterbein in their first game and fell to Kean, 9-3, in their second game. Washington slipped to 4-8 on the season with the two losses.

Against Otterbein, Washington trailed, 6-2, heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. Junior Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran) scored on a wild pitch in the fifth. Senior Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) singled in freshman Meghan Luterzo (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/St. Mary's) and then scored when freshman Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) hit an RBI triple to trim the Otterbein lead to 6-5. Senior Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland) was hit by a pitch and stole second base to give the Shorewomen runners on second and third with no outs, but Otterbein reliever Kristina Hayes retired the next three batters to stop the rally. The Shorewomen would load the bases in the sixth and get a runner on a first in the seventh, but couldn't get the tying run across in either inning.

Green finished the game against Otterbein 3-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored, while Hartman was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Adams was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Kristen Pawlus led Otterbein at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, three RBI, and a run scored.

Kean scored eight runs in the third inning to take control of its game against the Shorewomen. Washington sophomore Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Inst. of Notre Dame) went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the loss to Kean, while sophomore Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) doubled and scored a run and Luterzo singled and scored a run.

The Shorewomen will play Springfield at 4:10 p.m. and UW-La Crosse at 6:00 p.m. tomorrow at the Rebel Spring Games.
