Shorewomen Split Two in Florida
WC Defeats Concordia (WI), Falls to Anderson

ST. CLOUD, FL -- The Washington College softball team split a pair of games at St. Cloud High School at the Rebel Spring Games today. Senior Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) threw a shutout as the Shorewomen defeated Concordia (WI), 3-0, in their first game of the day. The Shorewomen then fell to Anderson, 5-3, in their second game of the day. Washington is now 4-6 this season.

Against Concordia, the Shorewomen took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning when freshman Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) singled in junior Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran) and freshman Meghan Luterzo (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/St. Mary's). Hartman reached on a hit-by-pitch to lead off the inning. Luterzo followed with a bunt single. Hartman and Luterzo then advanced one base each on a passed ball before scoring on the Adams single. Washington added another run in the top of the sixth against Concordia when Luterzo singled in senior Jess Hoff (Hatboro, PA/Germantown Academy).

Green allowed just four hits and no walks en route to the shutout win. Luterzo and Adams each finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate.

The Shorewomen took a 1-0 lead against Anderson in the fourth inning when Hartman scored on a wild pitch. Anderson plated all five of its runs in the top of the fifth inning. Dawn Sanders and Amy Loehndorf hit back-to-back triples to account for three of those runs. Washington mounted a rally in the bottom of the sixth as sophomore Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) hit an RBI single and Luterzo hit an RBI double, but the Shorewomen left the bases loaded in the inning and Anderson held on for the win.

Hartman went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored in the loss to Anderson. Loehndorf finished the game 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for Anderson.

The Shorewomen will play Otterbein at 2:20 p.m. and Kean at 4:10 p.m. Thursday at the Rebel Spring Games.
