Mules Kick Shorewomen

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Washington College dropped both ends of a Centennial Conference softball doubleheader against Muhlenberg College this afternoon in Chestertown, MD. The visiting Mules (14-14, 7-3 Centennial) won game one, 9-0 in five innings, and took game two from the Shorewomen (13-17, 4-6), 1-0, in eight innings.

Muhlenberg pitcher Nicole Washburn gave up three hits in the circle and went 1-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored to help guide the Mules past the Shorewomen, 9-0, in game one. Samantha Crist paced the Muhlenberg offense, going 3-for-3 with three runs batted in and three runs scored. RiRi Ferrigno and Missy DeFrain each had two hits for the Mules in game one. The Shorewomen had three singles in the game off the bats of sophomore third baseman Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley), freshman first baseman Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) and freshman second baseman Meghan Muterzo (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/St. Mary's).

The Washington bats were silenced again in game two, as Katie Vecchione threw a complete gamve five-hitter to lead Muhlenberg to the 1-0 victory, in eight innings. Lindsay Ruhling led off the top of the eighth inning with a double. After a sacrifice bunt by Hilary Marinchak, Crist doubled to right centerfield, plating Ruhling for the go ahead run. Adams pitched a complete game in the circle for the Shorewomen, giving up only six hits while striking out two in the losing effort. Junior outfielder Maria Hogg (Marriottsville, MD/Liberty) went 2-for-3 at the plate for Washington in game two.

The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference doubleheader at Swarthmore.
