9, 2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College swept a pair of Centennial Conference softball games from visiting McDaniel College this afternoon at the Washington College Softball Field in Chestertown, MD. The Shorewomen (13-13 overall, 4-2 in the CC) won the first game, 8-0, in five innings. Washington defeated McDaniel (11-13, 2-4) with a 3-1 victory in game two. Sophomore pitcher Michelle Laque (Ocean Pines, MD/Stephen Decatur) pitched a complete game five-hitter in the circle in game two for the Shorewomen. The Shorewomen struck first in the bottom of the first inning of game one with three runs, highlighted by a two RBI double off the bat of freshman first baseman Emily Adams (Bethesda, MS/Bethesda-Chevy Chase). Junior outfielder Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran) drove in senior outfielder Jess Hoff (Hatboro, PA/Germantown Acad.) in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Shorewomen an 8-0 advantage for the victory. Laque tossed a complete game five-hitter in game two, while striking out two McDaniel batters. The Shorewomen scored all of their runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Junior outfielder Maria Hogg (Marriottsville, MD/Liberty) and freshman outfielder Stef Morgan (Audubon, MJ/Audubon) each had a run batted in for Washington in the victory.Senior outfielder Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored, while sophomore third baseman Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) went 1-for-2 with a run scored and a walk. The game one victory by the Shorewomen snapped a 15-game losing streak against the Green Terror. Prior to today, Washington last defeated McDaniel in the 1998 season. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday on the road at Centennial Conference opponent Ursinus for a 3 p.m. doubleheader. |
