Shorewomen Sweep Diplomats
Clutch Hitting Sparks Pair of Wins

LANCASTER, PA -- The Washington College softball team came from behind in both games to sweep a Centennial Conference double-header from host Franklin & Marshall College this afternoon in Lancaster, PA. The Shorewomen posted an 11-8 win in eight innings in game one and recorded a 6-4 victory in game two, which was limited to six innings due to darkness. The Shorewomen improved to 11-9 and 2-0 in conference play, while the Diplomats fell to 3-18 and 0-2.

The Shorewomen held a 6-3 lead in game one before the Diplomats scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take an 8-6 lead. The Shorewomen tied the score and sent the game into extra innings on an RBI single by freshman Meghan Luterzo (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/St. Mary's) and an RBI fielder's choice by senior Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland) in the top of the seventh inning. Sophomore Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) hit a two-RBI single and later scored on an RBI single by freshman Emily Adams (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) in the top of the eighth inning to give the Shorewomen an 11-8 lead. F&M had two runners on with one out in the bottom of the eighth, but Washington sophomore pitcher Michelle Laque (Ocean Pines, MD/Stephen Decatur) got Robyn Jones to hit into a double play to end the game and give the Shorewomen the win.

Campbell finished game one 2-for-4 with a walk, three runs scored and three RBI. Sophomore Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Inst. of Notre Dame) was 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, and four runs scored, while Adams was 2-for-3 with two walks and three RBI and Luterzo was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI. Senior Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) added a base hit, three walks, and two runs scored. Laque got the win in relief for the Shorewomen, allowing one unearned run on four hits and no walks in two and one-third innings.

Lauren Incorvaia went 4-for-5 with a triple, an RBI, and a run scored in the opener for F&M.

F&M took a quick lead in game two by plating three runs in the first inning. The score remained 3-0 until the top of the fifth inning when the Shorewomen scored three runs of their own to tie the game. Proctor then hit a three-run home run to left field with two outs in the top of the sixth inning to put the Shorewomen up, 6-3. Liz Iannaconi hit an RBI single for F&M in the bottom of the sixth to trim the lead to 6-4, but Green retired the next three batters to give Washington the victory.

Proctor finished the second game 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored, while freshman Stef Morgan (Audubon, NJ/Audubon) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and junior Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Green got the win in the circle, allowing four runs on 10 hits and one walk in six innings.

Jones was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI in the second game for F&M.

The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home double-header against Haverford.
