Scimeca Ties Two HR Records
Shorewomen Swept by Wesley

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Senior Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) tied the Washington College school records for home runs in a season and for home runs in a game, but the host Shorewomen dropped both ends of a softball double-header to visiting Wesley this afternoon. The Wolverines (9-9), rallied to win game one, 5-4, and held off the Shorewomen (10-4) to win game two, 9-8.

Washington held a 4-1 lead in the opener before Wesley scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to come away with the victory. Junior Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) homered for the Shorewomen in the game one and went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Freshman Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) was 2-for-3 with a run scored in the game.

Wesley jumped out to a 7-0 lead in game two, before the Shorewomen responded with four runs in the bottom of the third. Two of those runs came on the first of two home runs in the game for Scimeca. Washington added another run in the fifth when Scimeca tripled and scored on a wild pitch and cut the lead to 7-6 when sophomore Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran) drove in freshman Bailey Manuel (Goldvein, VA/Liberty) with an RBI double in the sixth. The Wolverines scored twice in the top of the seventh to push the lead to 9-6. Scimeca hit another two-run home run in the bottom of the inning, but Wesley held on for the 9-8 victory.

Scimeca's two home runs in game two pushed her 2005 total to seven, tying the school single-season record set by Green just last season. Her two home-run performance was the fifth such performance in school history. Michelle Rodney accomplished the feat twice in 2001 - first in the season opener against Ripon and then against Villa Julie on March 28th of that year. Green hit two home runs in one game against Muhlenberg last April 9th, while Scimeca hit two home runs in a win over Davis & Elkins on March 6th of this year.

Scimeca finished game two 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBI and three runs scored. Freshman Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) was 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI, while Hartman was 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, and an RBI. Green doubled, scored a run, and drove in a run in the loss.

The Shorewomen will open Centennial Conference play Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. home double-header against Franklin & Marshall.
