25, 2005 GLEN BURNIE, MD -- The Washington College softball team improved to 10-2 for the first time in school history with a double-header sweep of host Villa Julie College this afternoon at Bachman Sports Complex. The Shorewomen won game one, 10-2, and took game two, 12-3. The Mustangs slipped to 2-6 with the two losses. Sophomore Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran) went 2-for-3 with two walks to and a home run in the opener. Senior Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) and freshman Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) also homered in the win, while junior Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) and junior Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland) each had two hits in the game. Campbell's home run was the first of her collegiate career. Green struck out six batters and allowed one earned run to pick up the win. In game two, Green hit a grand slam and finished 2-for-3 with a walk. Sophomore Meg Lucas (Pasadena, MD/Northeast) also went 2-for-3 with a walk, while freshman Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) banged out two hits of her own. Freshman Michelle Laque (Ocean Pines, MD/Stephen Decatur) pitched the final three and two-thirds innings of the five-inning game to pick up the win, striking out five batters and allowing no hits and two walks. The Shorewomen are back in action Wednesday with a 2:30 p.m. home double-header against Wesley. |
