Ursinus Takes Two from Shorewomen
Hartman Goes 3-for-4 in Second Game

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Ursinus College swept a pair of Centennial Conference softball games from host Washington College this afternoon in Chestertown, MD. The Bears (20-6, 3-1 Centennial) won the first game, 8-0, in six innings, and held off the Shorewomen (13-9, 3-5) in a 5-4 victory in game two.

The Bears scored seven of their eight runs in the opener in the third inning. Mallory Greene pitched a four-hitter for Ursinus in the first game, striking out seven batters and walking one.

The Shorewomen held a 3-2 lead in game two before Ursinus plated three runs in the fourth to go up, 5-3. Washington cut the lead to 5-4 when sophomore Maria Hogg (Marriottsville, MD/Liberty) hit an RBI single in the fifth inning, but Greene came in to pitch the final two and two-thirds innings for the Bears, limited Washington to one hit the rest of the way, and picked up the save.

Sophomore Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran) was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored in the game two loss for Washington, while freshman Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) doubled twice and drove in a run. Senior Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) drove in two runs for the Shorewomen. Freshman Michelle Laque (Ocean Pines, MD/Stephen Decatur) took the loss in the second game, but allowed no earned runs on seven hits and two walks and struck out seven batters.

The Shorewomen will play a pair of non-conference games at Widener tomorrow beginning at 3:00 p.m.
