Shorewomen Swept by Pitt-Bradford
Scimeca Knocks in Two in First Game

FT. PIERCE, FL -- The Washington College softball team suffered its first two losses of the season today, falling to Pitt-Bradford in Ft. Pierce, FL. The Panthers won the first game, 5-2, and scored in the bottom of the seventh to win game two, 4-3.

Senior Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) drove in both Washington runs with a single in game one. Sophomore Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran) walked three times and scored a run, while junior Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland) walked twice and scored a run. Junior Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) was 2-3 at the plate with a walk. Green also pitched the full seven innings for the Shorewomen in the first game, allowing three earned runs on five walks and seven hits. The Shorewomen left eight runners on base in the loss.

Hartman and Mozzer each went 2-4 with a run scored for Washington in game two, while senior Andrea Braverman (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) scored a run, drove in a run, and stole a base. Freshman Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) and sophomore Meg Lucas (Pasadena, MD/Northeast). Sophomore Eileen Douglass (Laurel, MD/Atholton) pitched the first five innings of the game, allowing three earned runs on two walks and five hits. Freshman Michelle Laque (Ocean Pines, MD/Stephen Decatur) pitched the final inning and two-thirds and took the loss. Laque allowed one earned run on three hits and struck out four batters.

The Shorewomen (4-2) return to action March 19th with their home opener, a 1:00 p.m. double-header against Catholic.
