19, 2005 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College softball team split a Centennial Conference double-header with visiting Swarthmore this afternoon. The Shorewomen (16-12, 4-8 Centennial) won the first game, 7-1, but the Garnet Tide (9-21, 3-7) took game two, 2-1. Freshman Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) went 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored in the opener, while freshman Megan Travers (Huntingtown, MD/Calvert) was 1-for-2 with a double, three RBI, and two runs scored. Sophomore Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran) doubled and drove in three runs and senior Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) doubled and scored a run. Sophomore Maria Hogg (Marriottsville, MD/Liberty) went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Junior Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) picked up the game one win, allowing one earned run on five hits and four walks, while striking out six batters. Freshman Bailey Manuel (Goldvein, VA/Liberty) drove in Scimeca in the seventh inning for the Shorewomen's only run of the second game. Freshman Michelle Laque (Ocean Pines, MD/Stephen Decatur) took the loss in game two, allowing two first-inning runs, but holding the Garnet Tide to five hits and one walk in the game. The Shorewomen return to action Thursday with a 3:30 p.m. double-header at fourth-ranked Salisbury. |
