Shorewomen Pound Out Two Wins
WAC Now 4-0 For First Time Ever

FT. PIERCE, FL -- The Washington College softball team swept a pair of games against Northwestern (MN) College today in Ft. Pierce, FL, winning the first game, 12-4, and the second, 15-5. First-year head coach Louie Richardson has the Shorewomen off to their first 4-0 start in team history.

Sophomore Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran) went two-for-three with a home run, a triple, five RBI, and two runs scored in the first game. The home run was the first of her collegiate career. Senior Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) went two-for-three with two runs scored, an RBI, and a triple. Freshman Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) and junior Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland) each scored two runs and drove in a run.

Junior Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) picked up the win on the mound in game one giving up four earned runs, two of them earned, in six innings pitched. Green allowed four hits and three walks and struck out four batters.

Washington scored 12 runs in the fifth and final inning of game two. Sophomore Maria Hogg (Marriottsville, MD/Liberty) went three-for-three with a run scored and three RBI in the game. Green went one-for-two with two walks, three runs scored, and two RBI, while Scimeca drove in three runs and scored two others. Freshman outfielder Megan Travers (Huntingtown, MD/Calvert) was two-for-two at the plate with two walks and two runs scored. Mozzer scored two runs, while sophomore Alex Walchonski (New Hope, PA/New Hope-Solebury) knocked in a pair of runs and scored a run.

Sophomore Eileen Douglass (Columbia, MD/Atholton) pitched the full five innings of the second game to pick up the win. Only one of the five runs she surrendered was earned as she allowed five hits and two walks, while striking out four batters.

The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 6:30 p.m. double-header against Pitt-Greensburg in Ft. Pierce.
