16, 2005 ALLENTOWN, PA -- Host Muhlenberg College scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning of the second game to complete a Centennial Conference softball double-header sweep of visiting Washington College this afternoon in Allentown, PA. The Mules won the opener, 5-3, and won the nine-inning second game, 5-4. Muhlenberg improved to 11-12 overall and 5-3 in conference play with the wins, while the Shorewomen slipped to 15-11 and 3-7 with the losses. Muhlenberg took a 5-0 lead after four innings in the opener. Washington scored all three of its runs in the game in the fifth. Sophomore Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran) was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in the opener for the Shorewomen, while freshman Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) was also 2-for-4. Juniors Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland) and Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) each scored a run, while freshman Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) drove in a run. The second game was tied at 1-1 until the Shorewomen plated three runs in the top of the eighth to take a 4-1 lead. Muhlenberg tied the game with three runs in the bottom half of the inning and won the game on an RBI double by Becki Toth in the bottom of the ninth. Proctor was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and an RBI in the loss for Washington, while Green went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored and Campbell went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Mozzer scored a run and senior Andrea Braverman (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) drove in a run. The Shorewomen return to action Tuesday with a Centennial Conference home double-header against Swarthmore beginning at 3:00 p.m. |
