Scimeca Breaks HR Record in Sweep
Shorewomen Take Two From Hilbert

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Senior Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) hit the 12th round-tripper of her career to take over sole possession of first place on Washington College's all-time home run list as the host Shorewomen swept visiting Hilbert in a softball double-header this afternoon in Chestertown, MD. Washington won the first game, 8-4, and took the second game, 11-3, in six innings. The Shorewomen improved to 8-2 this season with the wins, matching their victory total from all of last season. The Hawks fell to 0-2.

Junior Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and three runs scored in the opener, while freshman Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Senior Andrea Braverman (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) drove in a run, while junior Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland), freshman Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley), sophomoreMeg Lucas (Pasadena, MD/Northeast) and sophomore Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran) each scored a run.

Green picked up the win on the mound in game one, allowing no earned runs on four hits and six walks in seven innings. Green also struck out seven batters.

The Shorewomen were holding onto a 4-3 lead in game two before Hartman blasted a three-run home run into left-center field to break the game open. Scimeca hit her school-record 12th career home run well over the left field fence the following inning. The previous record was set by Michelle Rodney, who hit 11 home runs from 1999-2002.

Scimeca added another base hit and finished with two RBI and two runs scored in the second game. Freshman Bailey Manuel (Goldvein, VA/Liberty) went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Mozzer, Proctor, and Campbell each had two hits, one RBI, and one run scored. One of Proctor's hits was a double. Green walked twice and scored two runs, while Braverman scored one run.

Freshman Michelle Laque (Ocean Pines, MD/Stephen Decatur) pitched the full six innings for Washington in game two, allowing no earned runs on six hits and a walk. Laque struck out eight batters, including five in a row spanning the final two outs of the third inning and all of the fourth inning.

The Shorewomen return to action Friday with a 2:30 p.m. double-header at Villa Julie.
