April 5, 2005 HAVERFORD, PA -- The Washington College softball team split its first two Centennial Conference games of the season this afternoon at Haverford College. The Shorewomen won game one, 4-1, but fell in the second game, 2-1. Washington is now 11-5 overall this season, while the Fords, who also opened conference play today, are now 6-14 overall. Sophomore Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran) went 2-for-3 with a sacrifice bunt, a double, and two runs scored in the game one win. Junior Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) and freshman Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) each had two hits and two RBI in the opener, while sophomore Meg Lucas (Pasadena, MD/Northeast) scored two runs. Green picked up the win in game one, pitching the full seven innings. Hartman went 3-for-4 in game two and drove in senior Andrea Braverman (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) for the Shorewomen's lone run of the contest. Green, senior Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown), and freshman Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) each had a hit in the loss. Freshman Michelle Laque (Ocean Pines, MD/Stephen Decatur) took the loss, but neither of the runs she allowed were earned. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference double-header at McDaniel. |
