Shorewomen Sweep Catholic
Lucas Knocks in Three in Game Two

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College softball team swept a non-conference double-header from visiting Catholic University this afternoon in Chestertown, MD. The Shorewomen won game one, 5-2, and won game two, 6-2. Washington improved to 6-2 this season with the pair of victories, while Catholic fell to 9-6.

Catholic took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one, but the Shorewomen tied the game with a run in the second and took the lead for good with two runs in the third. Washington added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to build a 5-1 lead. The Cardinals scored a run in the seventh to provide the final margin.

Junior Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland) went 3-for-4 with one RBI in game one. Freshman Megan Travers (Huntingtown, MD/Calvert) doubled, drove in two runs and scored another, while senior Andrea Braverman (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) scored a run and drove in a run. Junior Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford), freshman Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institute of Notre Dame), and freshman Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) each scored a run, while senior Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) knocked in a run.

Green picked up the win on the mound in the first game, allowing no earned runs on six hits and no walks.

The Shorewomen scored two runs in the third and another in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead in game two. Catholic got on the board with a run in the top of the sixth, but the Shorewomen scored three times in the bottom of the inning to make it 6-1. The Cardinals scored again in the seventh inning and had the tying run at the plate with the bases loaded and one out, but Washington freshman pitcher Michelle Laque (Ocean Pines, MD/Stephen Decatur), who pitched to the final three batters, got out of the jam.

Sophomore Meg Lucas (Pasadena, MD/Northeast) went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI in the second game, while Proctor went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored and Green went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Campbell was 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs, and one RBI. Braverman knocked in a run and freshman Bailey Manuel (Goldvein, VA/Liberty) scored a run.

Sophomore Eileen Douglass (Columbia, MD/Atholton) picked up the win in the second game, pitching six and one-third innings and allowing two runs on six hits and no walks.

The Shorewomen return to action Monday with a 2:30 p.m. home double-header against Hilbert.
