WAC Drops Pair at CC Tournament
Shorewomen Finish 2005 with 11 More Wins Than 2004

GETTYSBURG, PA -- The Washington College softball team was eliminated from the Centennial Conference Championship Tournament with a pair of losses today in Gettysburg, PA. The Shorewomen dropped their first game, 3-0, to host Gettysburg, and then lost their second game, 5-2, to McDaniel.

Junior Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) doubled to record Washington's only extra base hit against Gettysburg. Sophomore Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran), junior Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland), freshman Amanda Campbell (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley), and freshman Bailey Manuel (Goldvein, VA/Liberty) each had a single against the Bullets. Freshman Michelle Laque (Ocean Pines, MD/Stephen Decatur) held Gettysburg to six hits and no walks in the loss.

Heather Sagaities went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for Gettysburg, while Shannon Kiry pitched a five-hit shutout.

Against McDaniel Washington took a 2-1 lead on a two-run double by senior Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) in the bottom of the fifth, but the Green Terror rallied to win the game with four runs in the seventh. Scimeca finished 2-for-3 at the plate, while Hartman had a hit, a walk, and a run scored and Mozzer had a hit, a sacrifice bunt, and a run scored. Freshman Kim Proctor (Ferndale, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) doubled and walked. Campbell added a hit and a walk for the Shorewomen, while senior Andrea Braverman (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) added a base hit of her own. Green took the loss, allowing eight hits and five walks.

Mary Abrams went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored for the Green Terror and also picked up the win while allowing seven hits and four walks.

The Shorewomen finish the 2005 season with a 19-17 record. Washington's 19 wins this season were second-most in team history and were 11 more than the Shorewomen's victory total of a year ago. This year's berth in the Centennial Conference Tournament was the first postseason berth in 21 the varsity seasons of softball at Washington College.
