Green Shines at Plate, But WC Drops Two
Sophomore Homers, Goes 6-for-7

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Washington sophomore Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) went six-for-seven at the plate, but the host Shorewomen lost both ends of a non-conference double-header to visiting Widener University this afternoon in Chestertown. The Pioneers (11-4) rallied to win game one, 8-7, and posted a 10-2 win in game two.

In game one, Green extended her season-opening hitting streak to 13 games with an RBI single in the first inning that drove in freshman Tara Harrigan (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) and gave the Shorewomen a 1-0 lead. Washington tacked on three runs in the third and another in the fourth to jump out to a 5-0 lead. Widener scored two runs in the top of the fifth, but the Shorewomen added another run in the bottom half of that frame to make it 6-2. The Pioneers plated two more runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to 6-4.

Mollie Ahern tied the score at 6-6 with a one-out, two-run double in the top of the seventh. Linda Hartzell drove in the go-ahead run with a one-out single and Erin Kane added the Pioneers' eighth run with a one-out double. The Shorewomen got back within one in the bottom of the seventh when sophomore Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland) doubled in Harrigan with one out, but could not get the tying run across.

Green finished game one four-for-four with an intentional walk, two RBI, and a run scored. Harrigan was three-for-five with three runs scored, while Mozzer went four-for-four with an RBI and two runs scored. Senior Natalie Liccketto (Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights) hit a two-run double in the loss.

In game two, Widener jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first and never looked back. Green banged out another first-inning single for Washington to push her hitting streak to 14 games. In the fifth inning, she hit her fourth home run of the season. Senior Theresa Pyzik (Baltimore, MD/Mercy) doubled twice and scored a run in the loss.

The Shorewomen (5-8-1) open Centennial Conference play Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. double-header at Franklin & Marshall.
