24, 2004 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College softball team split a non-conference double-header with visiting Villa Julie College this afternoon in Chestertown. The Shorewomen (5-6-1) won the first game, 10-6, but the Mustangs (5-7) won game two, 11-2, in five innings. Washington sophomore Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) extended her season-opening hitting streak to 12 games. The Shorewomen jumped out to an 8-0 lead after three innings in the opener and held on for the win. Senior Theresa Pyzik (Baltimore, MD/Mercy) was two-for-two with two walks, three RBI, and a run scored in the win, while junior Andrea Braverman (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) went one-for-one with three walks and two runs scored. Sophomore Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland) knocked in a run and went two-for-four at the plate, while Green singled, knocked in a run, and scored a run. Green also picked up the win in game one. She struck out eight batters in the victory and all six runs she allowed were unearned. Green hit her third home run of the season in the first inning of game two. Freshman Tara Harrigan (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) went two-for-three at the plate in the loss. The Shorewomen will take on Widener at home tomorrow beginning at 2:30 p.m. |
