Shorewomen Split with Garnet Tide
WC Plates 13 Runs in Game Two Win

SWARTHMORE, PA -- The Washington College Shorewomen split a pair of Centennial Conference games with host Swarthmore College this afternoon. Swarthmore rallied to win game one, 3-2, but the Shorewomen bounced back in a big way in the second game, posting a 13-0 win in five innings.

The Shorewomen held a 2-0 lead in game one, before the Garnet Tide scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure the win. Junior Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) went two-for-three with a run scored and an RBI in the loss for Washington.

Washington scored a run in the first inning, six in the second, another in the third, and five more in the fourth in game two. Sophomore Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) and freshman Eileen Douglass (Columbia, MD/Atholton) combined to pitch a two-hitter on the mound for the Shorewomen. Green got the win, pitching the first three innings and allowing one hit, while walking two batters. Douglass pitched the final two innings, also allowing one hit, while walking two batters.

Green was three-for-four with three RBI and a run scored at the plate in the second game. Scimeca went two-for-four with three runs scored and an RBI. Senior Theresa Pyzik (Baltimore, MD/Mercy) and sophomore Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland) each had two hits, two RBI, and a run scored, while freshman Tara Harrigan (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) went two-for-four with an RBI and a run scored.

The Shorewomen (7-16-1 overall, 2-8 Centennial) return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home double-header against Dickinson.
