WC Drops Pair to Northwestern (MN)
Late Rally in Game One Falls Short
FT. PIERCE, FL -- The Washington College
softball team slipped to 1-5 on the season with a pair of losses to
Northwestern (MN) College this afternoon in Ft. Pierce, FL. Northwestern
won game one, 7-6,after a late rally by the Shorewomen, and then posted
an 12-5 win in game two.
Northwestern led 7-2 in game one before the
Shorewomen got four runs across with one out in the seventh inning to
pull within one. The game ended on a double play with the potential
game-tying run on third base. Junior Andrea Braverman (Yorktown Heights,
NY/Yorktown) went three-for-four with a run scored in game one,
while sophomore Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland) was two-for-two
with a walk, a run scored, and an RBI. Freshman Tara Harrigan (Hamilton,
NJ/Steinert) drove in a pair of runs in the opener.
In the second game, junior Laura Scimeca
(Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) went three-for-four with two RBI , a
triple, and a run scored. Sophomore Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford)
was also three-for-four at the plate. She scored two runs. Freshman
Maria Hogg (Marriottsville, MD/Liberty) went three-for-three
with an RBI.
The Shorewomen are back in action Thursday
when they face Davis & Elkins at 10:00 a.m. in their final game
in Ft. Pierce.
