WC Closes Out Season at Gettysburg
Shorewomen Swept by Bullets

GETTYSBURG, PA -- The Washington College softball team closed out its 2004 season with a pair of Centennial Conference losses at Gettysburg this afternoon. The Bullets won game one, 2-1, and then took game two, 4-1.

In game one, the Bullets took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, but the Shorewomen tied things up on a third-inning sacrifice fly by sophomore Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) that drove in freshman Beth Anne Hartman (Ellicott City, MD/Baltimore Lutheran). The Bullets scored the game-winning run in the fifth on a single by Adrienne Simmons.

Junior Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) doubled and walked twice for the Shorewomen in the game one loss. Green went the distance on the mound, giving up two earned runs on six hits and two walks.

Washington jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two when sophomore Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland) doubled in Scimeca. Gettysburg came back to scored one run each in the first, second, third, and fifth innings, however, and win the game.

Senior Pamela Boccuzzi (East Rockaway, NY/East Rockaway) reached base in all three of her plate appearances in the loss, going one for one with a walk and a hit-by-pitch. Sophomore Jessica Quarto (Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) pitched the first five innings, allowing two earned runs on nine hits and a walk. Green pitched the final inning, allowing no runs on no hits and no walks.

The Shorewomen finish the season 8-21-1 overall and 3-13 in conference play.
