27, 2004 LANCASTER, PA -- Host Franklin & Marshall College swept visiting Washington College in a Centennial Conference softball double-header this afternoon in Lancaster, PA. The Diplomats took game one, 2-1, and posted a 7-5 win in game two. Washington sophomore Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) hit her fifth home run of the season in the game two loss. The Shorewomen took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one when freshman Tara Harrigan (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) hit a leadoff double and later scored on an RBI single by freshman Maria Hogg (Marriottsville, MD/Liberty). F&M scored both of its runs in the fifth on a two-run double by Dana Johns. Harrigan was two-for-three at the plate in the opener. Green took the loss on the mound, but gave up only four hits in six innings. Green's second-game home run came in the top of the fifth and tied the score at 5-5. The Diplomats scored the winning runs in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run single by Allison Pavero. With her fifth home run of the year, Green moved to within one home run of the single-season Washington College school record of six, set by Michelle Rodney in 2001. Green's season-opening 14-game hitting streak was broken in game one, but she more than made up for it in game two, going four-for-four with two RBI and two runs scored. Junior Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) went two-for-four with a run scored in the second game for the Shorewomen. The Shorewomen (5-10-1 overall, 0-2 Centennial) return to action Tuesday with a 2:30 p.m. Centennial Conference home double-header against Haverford. |
