WC Splits with Division II Wilmington
Green Tosses First Shutout

FT. PIERCE, FL -- The Washington College softball team split a pair of games with Division II Wilmington (DE) College today in Ft. Pierce, FL. The Shorewomen won the first game, 2-0, but lost the second, 9-3. Washington is now 4-2 this season, while Wilmington is 5-3.

Freshman Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) tossed her first collegiate shutout in game one. She also drove in the game's first run after freshman Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland) reached on a single. Junior Renee Springston (Pasadena, MD/Northeast) scored the second run after she tripled and was driven in by sophomore Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown).

Wilmington scored five runs in the fourth inning of the second contest to blow open a tight game. Mozzer scored two runs and drove in another in the game, while freshman Jess Hoff (Hatboro, PA/Germantown Academy) also scored a run. Junior Fallon Dillon (Grasonville, MD/Queen Anne's County), who took the loss on the mound, and senior Alexis Stapanon (Lexington Park, MD/Great Mills) pitched in the second game.

The Shorewomen finish play in Florida tomorrow with a 10:00 a.m. double-header against Marywood.
