31, 2003 DOVER, DE -- The Washington College softball team split a double-header at Widener University this afternoon. The Shorewomen (9-5) scored three runs in the seventh inning to win game one, 4-1, but dropped the second game, 7-1. Junior Fallon Dillon (Grasonville, MD/Queen Anne's County) put the Shorewomen up 1-0 in the fourth inning of game one when she doubled in sophomore Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown). The Wolverines tied things up with a run in the fifth. In the seventh, sophomore Andrea Braverman (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) drove in freshman Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland) with a one-out single. Freshman Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) followed with a two-RBI double that drove in senior Juliana Bahus (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Spalding) and Braverman. Green allowed just six hits and no walks while striking out four in the first game. In the second game, Wesley scored four runs in the second and three in the third to jump on top, 7-0. The Shorewomen got their only run in the fifth, when Scimeca scored on an error. Scimeca accounted for both of Washington's hits in game two, going two-for-three with a double. Senior Alexis Stapanon (Lexington Park, MD/Great Mills) pitched 3 2/3 perfect innings in relief, allowing no hits and no walks. The Shorewomen are back in action tomorrow with a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference double-header at Haverford. |
