10, 2003 FT. PIERCE, FL -- The Washington College softball team split a pair of games this afternoon in Ft. Pierce, FL, falling to St. Thomas Aquinas, 2-1, but bouncing back to defeat Maine Maritime, 9-1. The Shorewomen are now 3-1 this season. St. Thomas Aquinas (4-2) scored one run in the third and another in the fifth to take a 2-0 lead in the first game. The Shorewomen got a run on the board in the sixth when freshman Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) reached on a double and was knocked in by a double from junior Renee Springston (Pasadena, MD/Northeast). Green took the loss on the mound for the Shorewomen. Freshman Jessica Quarto (Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) picked up the win against Maine Maritime in her first collegiate start. Sophomore Andrea Braverman (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) had two hits, a run, and two RBI in the game. Freshman Krista Dant (Elkton, MD/Bohemia Manor) scored two runs and knocked in another. Springston scored three runs, while freshman Jess Hoff (Hatboro, PA/Germantown Academy) and junior Natalie Liccketto (Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights) each had one RBI. The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 10:00 a.m. doubleheader against Wilmington (DE) in Ft. Pierce. GAME
