23, 2003 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College softball team dropped a pair of games to seventh-ranked Salisbury University this afternoon in Chestertown. The Sea Gulls took the first game, 7-2, and the second, 9-1. Freshman Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) went three-for-three at the plate in game, accounting for all of the Shorewomen's hits, and knocked in both runs for WC. She gave up two earned runs in six innings of work on the mound in the loss. Sophomore Andrea Braverman (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) and sophomore Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) each scored a run. In game two, freshman Krista Dant (Elkton, MD/Bohemia Manor) hit a one-out double in the fifth for the Shorewomen's first hit of the game and scored later in the inning on a passed ball. Freshman Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland) tripled in the sixth inning. Freshman Jessica Quarto (Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield), who started and took the loss, and senior Alexis Stapanon (Lexington Park, MD/Great Mills) each pitched three innings and gave up one earned run. The Shorewomen are back in action Friday with a 3:30 p.m. home double-header against Franklin & Marshall. |
