Shorewomen Swept by Terror
Green Goes Three-for-Four in Game Two

WESTMINSTER, MD -- The Washington College softball team slipped to 11-9 overall and 2-4 in Centennial Conference play with a pair of losses to host McDaniel, the defending Centennial Conference Champion, this atfernoon. The Green Terror posted a 9-0 win in game one and a 6-5 win in game two.

McDaniel's Samantha Abrams pitched a two-hitter in the opener. Freshman Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) doubled and freshman Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland) singled to account for the Shorewomen's hits.

In game two, McDaniel jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one inning, but the Shorewomen clawed back into the game, scoring one run each in the second, third and fourth innings. The Green Terror scored a pair of funs in the fifth to push the lead to 6-3, but Washington plated a run in the sixth to make it 6-4. Junior Renee Springston (Pasadena, MD/Northeast) drove in senior Alexis Stapanon (Lexington Park, MD/Great Mills) with a two-out single in the top of the seventh to make it 6-5 before McDaniel's Kim Camponelli retired the final batter to end the rally and the game with the tying run on first.

Green went three-for-four with a double, an RBI and a run scored in game two, while Springston was two-for-four with two runs scored and an RBI.

The Shorewomen host Swarthmore in a 3:00 p.m. double-header Tuesday.
