2, 2003 HAVERFORD, PA -- The Washington College softball team opened Centennial Conference play with a sweep of host Haverford this afternoon. The Shorewomen won the first game, 7-4, and the second game, 5-0. Washington, now 11-5 overall this season, matched its win total from the entire 2002 campaign with the pair of victories. Freshman Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) got the win in game one, striking out nine batters and giving up just one earned run. Green also had two hits, including a double, and scored a run. Sophomore Andrea Braverman (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) and senior Alexis Stapanon (Lexington Park, MD/Great Mills) each had a pair of hits, scored two runs, and had one RBI. Stapanon doubled in one of her two hits. In the second game, junior Fallon Dillon (Grasonville, MD/Queen Anne's County) tossed a four-hit shutout. Dillon walked just one batter in the contest and struck out two. Junior Renee Springston (Pasadena, MD/Northeast) had a pair of hits and scored three runs. Stapanon had two hits and two RBI and junior Natalie Liccketto (Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights) hit a two-run double. The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. double-header at McDaniel. |
