25, 2003 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College softball team split a Centennial Conference double-header against visiting Franklin & Marshall this afternoon. The Shorewomen (14-14, 5-7 Centennial) dropped the first game, 5-1, but bounced back to win the second game, 3-2. In game one, freshman Laura Mozzer (Tolland, CT/Tolland) drove in senior Juliana Bahus (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Spalding) with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning. Junior Natalie Liccketto (Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights) doubled in the seventh, advancing Bahus to third, to record Washington's only extra-base hit of the game. In game two, sophomore Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) won the game in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out base hit that drove in Mozzer. Scimeca finished four-for-four in the game with two RBI and a run scored. Senior Alexis Stapanon (Lexington Park, MD/Great Mills) pitched the final four innings of game one and picked up a complete game victory in game two. In 11 innings of work, she gave up just one earned run on eight hits. The Shorewomen are back in action tomorrow when they host Gettysburg at 1:00 p.m. |
