Red Devils Sweep Shorewomen

CARLISLE, PA -- The Washington College softball team slipped to 13-11 overall and 4-6 in Centennial Conference play with a pair of losses to host Dickinson this afternoon. The Red Devils won game one, 3-2, and game two, 2-1.

Washington trailed 1-0 in game one until the fourth inning when sophomore Laura Scimeca (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) singled and junior Renee Springston (Pasadena, MD/Northeast) doubled. Both Scimeca and Springston would score on a passed ball to make it 2-1 in favor of the Shorewomen. Dickinson scored twice in the fifth, however, to win the game. Freshman Diane Green (Milford, DE/Milford) took the loss in game one.

Green scored Washington's only run in game two. She tripled in the seventh inning and scored on a throwing error. Senior Alexis Stapanon (Lexington Park, MD/Great Mills), who was charged with the game two loss, senior Christie Allebach (Telford, PA/Souderton Area), and senior Juliana Bahus (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Spalding) each got a hit in game two.

The Shorewomen are back in action Wednesday when they host seventh-ranked Salisbury at 3:30 p.m.
